What to Expect

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.”

Therapy

How the process begins.

Clients enter into therapy with me in the following ways. For some individuals the first step of therapy begins by creating an environment to feel safe enough to open one’s mind to different ways of perceiving; for other’s the therapy begins with a leap to expanding their awareness of the many levels of reality that powerfully influence them and their experience.

A place of awareness begins to arise when your mind/body feels comfortable and accepted.  In a safe environment, rather than contracting around the pain or problem, together, we can expand your vision of what is possible. This larger view enables you to take the risk to open and by opening experience more and more layers of support.  In the realm of awareness of all that influences your experience, you can begin to see that no matter what circumstances of life you are in at the moment, the main task is to keep moving in the flow of your life towards personal freedom.

How the process transforms.

With this support and sense of safety greater clarity and openness can emerge. The creation of the space together allows for the unfolding of the perfect context and rhythm for you to discover what you need to meet and move each challenging situation. Each decision holds the potential to move you to a state of greater flow and inner knowing that builds the capacity to keep moving forward.

Who is best suited.

Most of my clients have been in therapy before and they are looking for an approach that goes beyond the cognitive process and can truly create transformation in their lives.  They want to go beyond the narrative of their life and develop greater awareness of what can truly create change.

I work with individuals and couples who are committed to the growth process in their lives and see therapy as a vehicle to learn new tools to keep on moving forward.

Some of my clients are more interested in Life Coaching which supports the whole person to develop a lifestyle that truly nourishes their body, mind and spirit.  Many of my coaching clients are in a life transition, creating entrepreneurial projects and/or healing from chronic illness.

I also offer spiritual and life coaching for life transitions, recareering, health and wellness and general spiritual development.  This is generally a choice for someone who is feeling more steady in their life yet wants to invite more support into the change process.

Although I work collaboratively with all of my clients, Life Coaching is truly a partnership. I become an ally and support for the goals my clients create for themselves. They come to me with their vision and I bring my skills to help them find their path to bring them into manifestation.

Coaching is best for those who are ready to act and create yet feel a need for support to grow into their vision

Telemental Health Consultations

I offer telemental health consultations to all of my clients on an as needed basis.  However, I can only offer coaching via telemental health apps to clients who are not local to the DC metro area. These sessions are fee for service and cannot be reimbursed by insurance.   I do not offer ongoing psychotherapy by phone only.  For my psychotherapy clients I use phone or skype sporadically when necessary conditions apply.

Confidentiality

Our communications are kept in the strictest confidence except for the extremely rare event in which I would be required by law to report concerns about danger to self or danger to another.

Cancellation

Once psychotherapeutic or coaching work is underway, if you need to cancel a session, please do so by calling 301-760-8798 a minimum of 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for a missed session. In conditions of inclement weather, we make a decision together about whether to meet or re-schedule and, of course, there is no late cancellation fee.

Payment/Insurance

I am a Medicare provider. All medicare clients are required to pay their deductible if applicable and their co-pay if no supplemental insurance is available. Payment for sessions is required at the time that services are provided, by check, cash or credit card is required for all other clients. If you request it, I provide a statement once a month for my psychotherapy clients to submit to your insurance company.  Coaching clients can receive a statement to use as a tax deduction if that applies to your situation. While I do not participate with any insurance companies, if your plan pays for an out-of-network provider, you may receive reimbursement. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance company about your benefits.
